Trending Topic: #atheistrollcall

Hundreds, perhaps thousands, of atheists started coming out of the woodwork on Saturday night, taking over Twitter with the hashtag #atheistrollcall.

There were some scattered rumors of twitter censoring the #atheistrollcall tag, but these were unsubstantiated. However, since I personally had my twitter account suspended a few days ago, after recieving some private messages asking me not to be so ‘hateful’ or ‘harsh’, I would not be at all surprised to find Twitter would bend over so easily…

But it would seem that atheists and free-thinkers the world over have had enough of religion dictating the political climate. The recent antics of the GOP in America, involving birth control, the personhood bill and forced trans-vaginal ultrasounds, which are the very definition of rape,  are galvanizing people into speaking out.

We can only hope that the excitement of this evenings #atheistrollcall doesn’t fade too quickly. The American people need to stand together against religious oppression and its antiquated dogma and move forward into the 21st century, as an enlightened nation, throwing off the shackles of 2,000 years of unscientific, unthinking, backward morality.

#atheistrollcall Please retweet! // And @mention your local congressman while you’re at it 🙂
